To God Be the Glory! I am Lue Ward, publisher and CEO of Having Church Ministries
Having Church Ministries is just a conglomerate of all of the visions God has given unto me. It was after leaving the Million Man March in 1995 that God spoke to me what he would have me do. His message was to go out into the world and spread the word through any and all media resources. That same year, under the established name Harambee Communications, I published my first newspapers in the Hampton Roads area, Suffolk Happenings and Hampton Roads Happenings. After more than 14 years, those newspapers are still growing strong. Along with the two newspapers, I started a local television talk show, showcasing local business and political figures and happenings in and around Hampton Roads. With such success with the newspapers and TV show, I was inspired to continue to do His Will and launched my first, full-color Christian magazine, Having Church Magazine.
As a spin-off of the magazine I took to the airwaves and started a 30-minute Christian radio talk show. By now I was ready to take my visions to another level and I produced Having Church Gospel Show (2008) a 30 minute program which featured videos of local and national gospel artists on a local network in Hampton Roads. Now, by God's grace, I am presenting to you Having Church For Women.
The Bible says, "seek ye the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you." God is good! Being obedient to God has enabled me to feature a forum so that His leading ladies can share their thoughts, stories and experiences with others. I pray that while reading this publication you will be inspired, uplifted and willing to share it with your family and friends.
May God Bless,
Lue Ward
Rev. Dr. Tonya Blount is the Editor-in-Chief of Having Church for Women magazine, a 52-page, national bi-monthly print publication with a growing circulation of 50,000. The September/October 2009 edition was the premiere issue. The publication is a spin-off of Having Church magazine. The latter has been in print for five years. Dr. Tonya was raised by artistic parents, Ronald and Bertha Vaughn in Brooklyn, New York who quickly recognized their daughter's artistic talents. She was taught the values of hard work, responsibility, and rewards and acquired a keen understanding of contribution.
Dr. Tonya Blount developed a love for singing and playing the piano and was intuitively referred to as an "old spirit" by her elders. As a youth, she sang in her church choir, and would go on to sing back-up vocals for several of New York City rap artists.
After surviving a challenging and violent marriage, Dr. Tonya found herself homeless -twice -and raising five children on her own. While living on the streets, she became ill. Anticipating her death, she wrote a memoir to leave as a legacy for her children. The "legacy" was highly-praised by her friends. Innovation would transformed the document into her debut novel, Leaving the Wilderness. Implementing her standards of excellence, and holding herself accountable for her success, Dr. Tonya would turn her conditions all around and rebound faster and stronger than anyone expected. She regained her health and wrote several more books. Many more successful ventures and businesses would follow.
Using her God-given vision of contribution, and a decision to utilize her talents, Dr. Tonya brought transparency and efficiency to battered women and their children. She has worked with many organizations such as Voices of Women Organizing Project (VOW), Jericho Road, w.o.m.e.n.,EO., Women Destined for Greatness, Inc., Women Against Abuse and others in an effort to further eradicate domestic violence. In 2004, she founded Leave the Wilderness, Inc., an organization dedicated to this population. And in the Fall of 2006, she debuted on her own talk show -The Tonya Blount Show. The program aired on MYTV and FOX in Central Virginia and was broadcasted to a half-million households.
As her vision expands, Dr. Tonya continues to direct her attention to philanthropy, and donating her time and resources to charitable, cultural, and educational causes. Her talents, abilities, and forward-looking leadership build upon the spirit of unity. She has enjoyed features with BET, New York Newsday, Richmond Times Dispatch, Richmond Voice, Canarsie Courier, Caribbean Life, Virginia Informer, Disilgold magazine, NY Daily News, e-Spire Entertainment, The Blessed Room, Black Romance magazine, Virtuous Women, Mo Favor magazine and many others. Additionally, she has appeared on many television and nationally syndicated radio stations. Today, she continues to attract the attention of fans and associates. In her free time, she says she loves playing the harp and will release her first CD recording entitled, “The Oil of Joy” in the Spring of 2010. Dr. Tonya also enjoys crocheting, and playing the piano. Rev. Dr. Tonya Blount is the proud mother of four adult children and one teenager.
